MSA Statement

Architecture at MSA is well-recognised and I am eager to further my studies there because of my reliance towards its performance, which is consistently ranked amongst the best in UK. MSA made my decision reasonable with the features and benefits such as collaboration and assistance run by MMU and the University of Manchester. This will benefit from the high experience, particularly in respect of considerable resources, expertise in teaching and research available in both institutions. All of these will provide a well–rounded education in architecture and can offer excellence in teaching and learning. Strong links with architectural practice in the Northwest and architectural practitioners will help me to explore international contemporary architecture.

The recent exhibition that I have visited was Norman Foster and Partner exhibition at KLCC in 2013. The exhibition contained a comprehensive overview of Foster's lifetime of incredible work from a series of incredible models to stunning renderings. There also showed comprehensive review of the remarkable process Foster and Partners uses to formulate their work. This exhibition encourages me to thrive in dynamic and creative manner to produce works of architecture that goes beyond form and function. Norman Foster attended the University of Manchester's school of architecture in 1956, so I believed that MSA can help me to be a professional architect like him.

My favourite architect is Frank Lloyd Right. He was an American architect who designed more than 1000 structures and has completed 532 works. All his works were underpinned by a belief system that buildings should be at one with their environment, their form should grow with the needs of the client and that site. He also wants the floor plan, structural materials, and the use of the building to be all together in harmony. During a long life, one of the most striking and iconic buildings in the USA is the Falling water, a house poised above a waterfall in rural Pennsylvania. It was designed to live with the waterfalls, make them as a part of life and not just to look at them now and then.

A work of architecture which I would like to experience in person is Arcosanti. Arcosanti is a work by Paolo Soleri with a concept of arcology, architecture sympathetic to ecology by a construction technique called earth casting. He chose the idea Cosanti means “Against Things” leads to an understanding of anti-materialist stance. Arcosanti embodies Soleri's urban ideals are to maximize the interaction and accessibility associated with an urban environment and demonstrating a positive response to the many problems of urban civilization. I want to personally experience the natural element of earth without any distractions and natural disasters. My proposition is urban implosion rather than explosion.

Guitar

Guitar is the most popular musical instrument that makes sound by the strings. I drew this picture because of my passion on music that influence me to learn guitar. The medium that I used is charcoal which can make it more realistic.

Orange fruit

Orange is my favorite fruit and I chose to sketch it with pencil. I used the rendering techniques such as stippling, hatching and cross-hatching.

William Shakespeare

This is a portrait of William Shakespeare. He  was an English poet, playwright and actor . I used 2B and 5B pencils grades to sketch this portrait.

New York City

New York City is the most popular city in the United State and the centre of the New York metropolitan area. I used felt and marker pens to create the shadows of the buildings.

Grand Canyon Landscape

A canyon or gorge is a deep ravine between pairs of  escarpments or cliffs and is most often carved from the landscape by the erosive activity of a river over geologic timescales. I used charcoal to render the shadows and texture of the wall.

Falling Water Interior Design

Falling water is a house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935 in rural southwestern Pennsylvania. I used B, 2B and 6B pencil grades to give the effect of light and shadows through the windows.

Sydney Opera House

The sketch of  Sydney Opera House which is the most recognizable building and the icon of Australia's creative and technical achievement. I used HB, 2B, and 5B pencil grades to render its soaring white roof and the water surface with the light reflection.

Photography

The Mecca Royal Clock Tower during the sun rise which was captured in Saudi Arabia during my last semester break. The complex holds several world records such as the tallest clock tower in the world and the world's largest clock surface.

Psychological Self-Portrait

Acrylic painting on A1 canvas

The theme was passion and I tried to relate it with music concept. I used collage on the portrait to resemble the music notes and chords. The face expression portrays my passion towards  music .

Prison Gate

The painting of a scenery in front of the old barren main gate coated with moss. This is actually a prison in Malaysia that had been demolished.I made this more abstract on the sky by using various colour to enhance the ambiance of the quiet and calm place.

Light Installation

I chose the aurora phenomenon as the main idea of  my light installation project according to the theme of diversity. A sphere shape was crafted from a piece of thread and the light was installed with different colours of transparent papers.

Crystal Ice Sculpture

Covert and obscured was the theme given and I used the element of Ice to make a scenography 3D model. My model shows the setting at a frozen place which inspired from the movie of The Rise Of The Guardians. I also applied the colour of blue and black glitters on surface of the polystyrene.
